Engagement Session in Lessinia: An outstanding Light After the Storm
Some days begin with a thousand doubts and end up giving you something truly magical. Francesca and Gianfranco’s engagement session in Lessinia is definitely one of those days I will remember for a long time.
Rain had accompanied us throughout the entire day. The forecast left little room for optimism and until the very last moment we weren’t sure what to do. Should we postpone? Find an alternative location? Or trust that small window of clear weather the forecast was promising?
We decided to trust it, and the mountains rewarded us.

A mountain Engagement Session between clouds and sunset
When we arrived at Malga Le Coe, in the heart of Lessinia, the landscape looked completely different from what we had imagined. Just minutes earlier, heavy rain had been falling and despite it being July the atmosphere felt almost like an autumn day.
Low clouds wrapped around the meadows and everything seemed quiet, grey, and still.
Then, exactly as predicted, the rain stopped.
Within minutes the light began filtering through the clouds, creating soft highlights and incredibly rich colors. The vibrant green grass, the crystal-clear air and the dramatic sky transformed Lessinia into the perfect setting to tell this couple’s story.
This is one of the reasons I love planning mountain engagement sessions so much: the mountains have a way of surprising us and creating atmospheres that simply can’t be replicated anywhere else.
More than just a photo session
When people think about an engagement session they often imagine beautiful photographs to use on their wedding website, save-the-dates, or simply keep as memories.
The true is that for many couples it becomes something much deeper.
It’s a chance to spend intentional time together, away from to-do lists, deadlines, and wedding planning. An opportunity to slow down and create a memory that exists long before the photographs themselves.
A few days after this session, Francesca sent me a message that perfectly captures what I hope every couple experiences:
“You gave us something magical, something we would do a thousand times over. We had fun, we felt relaxed and we came home happier than ever. That sky after hours of rain will always remain a beautiful memory in our hearts.”
This is exactly why I believe so strongly in engagement sessions.
The photos matter, of course. They will stay with you for a lifetime and become part of your family’s story.
But what truly matters is the experience itself: walking through the meadows together, sharing laughter, watching the sun emerge after hours of rain, and enjoying precious quality time as a couple.
The images simply preserve all of it.

Tips for planning your Engagement Session in Lessinia
- Trust the light more than the forecast
Mountain weather changes quickly. A day that seems completely ruined can turn into a spectacular sunset within an hour. That’s why I always review the forecast together with my couples before making any decisions about rescheduling. - Choose Outfits That Make You Feel Comfortable
The mountains are perfect for an elegant yet natural style. Neutral colors, soft fabrics with texture, and earthy tones inspired by nature photograph beautifully in this environment. - Schedule your session close to the sunset
The final hours of the day provide softer, more flattering light and showcase the Lessinia landscape at its very best.
The Golden Hour begins roughly 40 minutes before sunset and offers ideal conditions for creating truly unforgettable images. - Don’t be afraid of clouds
Perfectly clear skies aren’t always the most photogenic.
More often than not, clouds, mist and the light that follows a storm create the most atmospheric and visually striking photographs, adding depth and emotion to your images.
Looking at these photographs now, it’s hard to imagine that just a few hours earlier we were considering canceling altogether.
The rain made Francesca and Gianfranco’s engagement session even more meaningful.
One extra tip: wear comfortable shoes that complement your outfit. Malga Le Coe is easily accessible by car, so hiking boots aren’t necessary, but comfortable footwear will allow you to move more freely and enjoy the experience.
